Although the weather has only begun to let up, it’s never too early to start thinking about spring cleaning and getting your home into tip-top shape. While it can be hard to decide where to start, we’ve put together some of our favourite spring cleaning tips to help give your home the deep clean it really deserves inside and out.

Clean Up the Yard

Cold winds and snowfall can really take a toll on anything that grows out of the ground. Use a hand pruner to remove all the dead twigs, and branches from trees or shrubs so they can grow healthy and full again in time for summer.

Wash the Windows

There are very few things as wonderful as the sunny day of that spring sunshine on your windows. Wash your windows, scrub the sills and even take a hose to the screens. Try using a mild soap, baby shampoo or a simple solution of water and vinegar. Use a soft sponge, brush or newspaper to avoid streaks, and be sure to wash them on a dry, overcast day.

Freshen up the Front Door

Giving your entry door some TLC is a must in the spring. Washing and waxing your door in the new season will not only help your door shine but protect it from the elements. Giving your entry door a fresh coat of paint is another excellent way to increase curb appeal and make your home stand out.

Hose Down the Exterior

Has the hardships of winter left your home’s exterior looking a little worse for wear? Hose off your siding and stucco and give your driveway a good blast of water. If using a pressure washer, be careful not to point it at the windows or doors as it could cause seal failure or other undesirable results.

De-clutter the Interior

Many studies show that having a disorganized home can add to your stress level. Spend some time reorganizing everything and anything. Whether it’s your closet, the junk drawer or the basement – getting rid of unwanted items, and cleaning every nook and cranny will not only have a positive effect on your health but will help make your home tidier.

Plan to Renovate

Spring is prime time for exterior renovations to be done because you can have all summer to properly enjoy them. Installing new windows or a bold entry door is one of the most effective ways to reinvent the look of your home. Adding features such as sidelites, transoms, grilles, brickmould and more, to match the authentic architectural profile of your home will only boost your curb appeal.
